The VaultRule weekly Flow allowance rule prevents the classic problem: you start the month strong, then Flow “mysteriously” disappears by day 12.
The rule: Your monthly Flow becomes a weekly allowance. You only spend the weekly slice. No mid-week top-ups from the Vault.
Who this rule is for
- You get paid monthly (or in big chunks) and overspend early.
- You hate tracking, but you want a hard boundary.
- You want spending to “reset” automatically each week.
Step 1: Set the right monthly Flow number
This rule only works if Flow is realistic. If your Flow limit is fantasy, the weekly allowance will feel painful.
Do this first: how to set your Flow limit.
Step 2: Convert Flow into a weekly allowance
Use the simple default:
- Weekly allowance = Monthly Flow ÷ 4
Example: Monthly Flow €800 → weekly allowance €200.
Step 3: Pick your “weekly release” method (choose one)
- Option A (simple): Keep Flow as-is, but only spend up to the weekly amount. (This works if you’re disciplined.)
- Option B (best): Move the weekly allowance into a “spend pocket” or separate spending account every week.
- Option C (hard boundary): Withdraw the weekly allowance as cash and spend from that only.
If you like cash boundaries, use: VaultRule cash strategy. If you prefer cards, use: VaultRule card strategy.
Step 4: Automate the weekly release (so it’s effortless)
Pick a weekly day (Monday works well). Then automate the transfer so you never “forget” — and never negotiate with yourself.
VaultRule best practice is still: fund Vault first, then Flow. Use: automate VaultRule on payday.
The only rule that matters: no mid-week top-ups
If you top up mid-week, the boundary becomes fake. When you hit zero, you do one of these:
- Pause discretionary spending until next week (recommended).
- Use the stop-loss immediately: Flow Freeze Rule.
- If you’re truly out of options, follow the recovery steps: what to do when Flow runs out.
Add two alerts so you don’t get surprised
Turn on:
- Large transaction alert (so one swipe doesn’t erase the week)
- Low balance alert (so you see the boundary before it hurts)
Setup guide: VaultRule alerts & guardrails.
If your income is irregular
This weekly allowance rule still works — you just need a conservative “low month” Flow number so the weekly slices are safe.
Use: VaultRule irregular income “low month” method.
