Automate Your Payday: Transfers and 60-Second Checklist

Set payday transfers that fund bills first, cap spending second, and use a short checklist to confirm the system worked for monthly, biweekly, or weekly pay.

To automate VaultRule, you only need one thing: payday transfers that fund Vault first and Flow second. After that, the system mostly runs itself.

Step 1: Calculate Vault (so automation is safe)

Before you automate anything, make sure Vault is correct:

Vault = Monthly bills + (Annual costs ÷ 12) + Buffer

Use: How to calculate your Vault amount.

Step 2: Set the payday transfer order

The order matters:

  • Transfer #1: Payday → Vault (fund bills first)
  • Transfer #2: Payday → Flow (your spending cap)

Step 3: Pick a schedule that matches your pay

Use ready-to-copy schedules here: VaultRule Automation Templates (monthly / biweekly / weekly).

Step 4: Auto-pay bills from Vault

Once Vault is funded automatically, set bills to auto-pay from Vault so Flow stays clean.

Use the checklist: Vault bill-pay checklist.

Step 5: Set a Flow cap (so it doesn’t drift)

Automation only works if Flow is a real cap, not a suggestion.

Use: How to set your Flow limit.

If Flow runs out

That’s allowed. Don’t touch Vault. Use: What to do when Flow runs out.

Make sure your bank supports this

Some banks make automation easy; others make it annoying. Use: VaultRule Banking Checklist.

Optional tool: Wise (separate Flow account)

If Vault and Flow live inside the same bank app, it’s easy to “borrow” from bill money. A separate Flow tool makes the boundary real — which makes automation easier to follow.

Prefer a normal link: Open a free Wise account. For the full tool checklist, see Recommended Tools.

The 60-second payday checklist

  • Vault funded: the scheduled transfer arrived before upcoming bill dates.
  • Bills checked: the next withdrawals use the correct account and payment method.
  • Annual costs included: predictable non-monthly costs are funded a little at a time.
  • Flow capped: the amount available for flexible spending is clear for this pay cycle.
  • Alerts active: low balance, failed payment, and unusual transaction alerts are on.

If income changes from one payday to the next, use the low-month method rather than relying on an average that may not arrive.
